In 1982, writer and journalist Tom Graves in the beginning years of his career pursued the fanciful notion of writing a
biography of the most reclusive star in the history of cinema, Louise Brooks. The problem: Louise Brooks admitted virtually
no one into her life, much less an unknown writer from the South who had seen only a handful of her films. Armed with his
innocence, youth, and can-do spirit, Graves not only talked Louise Brooks into letting him into her apartment, but spent an
at times tense, at times heartwarming afternoon with her. Eventually, after debating whether to throw him out, Brooks cottoned
to the young, brash writer and for a few exhilarating weeks for Graves authorized him to write her biography. After 30 years
Graves finally tells his tale as the last journalist to ever be admitted into the bedroom of this cult legend.
